Since 2008 I have noticed a growing trend where people start businesses for the purpose of just generating money or to solve another lifestyle problem like spending time with their family. If you start a business just to make money then you will not create exceptional products or services. You will cut corners, provide horrible experiences, undercharge, lose customers and you will always work hard vs. working smart. The businesses that stand the test of time configure their business models to provide an experience that creates loyal fans.
Business is not just about money; business is about providing an exceptional product or service that provides a transformational experience to the right group of people at the right time.

Steve Jobs understood this when he created Apple, he knew that if he created an exceptional product that provided a transformational experience to the right group of people at the right time he would not only differentiate Apple from its competitors but that he would also create loyal fans and a very profitable business.

Having a revenue model is one thing but your revenue model can only be structured when you have identified the experience that you want your ideal customer to have.

Focusing just on the money is short sighted and won’t keep you in business for very long.

I always know when a business owner is just focusing on the money, because they offer a lot for free, their business is un-organized and when I speak to them they often seem really over worked and frustrated.

If you have a product or service that is truly excellent and provides a transformational experience you wouldn’t be offering it for free.

Do you ever see Apple offering anything for free? In fact everything that they offer is normally more expensive than their competitors. However I have never been to an Apple Shop that wasn’t packed with loyal fans waiting to buy something.

People often ask me why my fees are so expensive. The answer is because I know the value of my experience and I know the value of the product or service that I am offering.

Every day I ask myself is my business re-affirming through my website, tweets, Facebook, customer service, sales team, personal assistants, my own personal image the experience that I want my customers to have?

Do you ask yourself that question? Or instead do you ask yourself how much money can I make today? Or how much should I discount my product or service to bring in money to pay xyz?

In line with my mission of 2012 which is to help business owners think big I am offering a complementary teleclass Thursday January 19th between 5pm – 7pm I am going to be explaining how to structure a value based business model that put the customer experience at the heart of your business.

You will learn how to:

Unearth the core value you want to offer your customers

Identify your ideal customer

Outline the relationship that you want to have with your customers

Deliver the core value to your customer that provides as transformational experience

If you would like to know how to create a value based model click here to leave your name and email and you will be sent the access information.
